Born in Windhoek but raised in Swakopmund from just five days old, Wihan van Wyk has a natural connection to Namibia’s coastline and wide open spaces. After completing his schooling at Privaatskool Elnatan in the south, he pursued Tourism Management in Stellenbosch, laying the groundwork for what would become a deeply fulfilling career.
Wihan’s journey to the travel industry took a few detours — from sales and duty management roles at lodges, to selling art overseas and even driving concrete mixers — but two years ago, he found his true calling in tourism and hasn’t looked back since. Today, he’s a valuable member of the team at the Namibia Tours & Safaris vehicle depot, helping ensure smooth operations and offering hands-on support on the ground.
He’s passionate about engaging with people, especially when he gets to head out on tour. One of his proudest moments was spotting his first leopard in Etosha National Park with 11 guests onboard — a sighting that left an unforgettable smile on every face.
A firm believer in meaningful experiences over souvenirs, Wihan encourages travellers to focus on the moments, the people and the adventures that truly make a journey memorable. His top tip? Bring a good pair of binoculars or a camera — and an open heart.
When he’s not working, you’ll find him soaking in Formula 1, tweaking his home audio setup, cooking good food, or getting hands-on with a DIY project. His ideal holiday? Either luxurious lodges or well-equipped camping — as long as it's surrounded by nature. Favourite destinations? Sossusvlei, the Zambezi Region and Victoria Falls top the list.
Wihan lives by the quote “What you sow, you will reap” and believes adventures are what truly fill the soul.
