Sonja Steyn is one of them.
Born in Walvis Bay and now happily back on Namibian soil, Sonja recently rejoined Namibia Tours & Safaris after spending five years in the United Kingdom with her family. While life abroad brought new experiences and opportunities, it also confirmed what she had always known deep down - the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Namibia is where Sonja’s heart truly lives.
A devoted family person, Sonja treasures time with her husband and their two children - a 13-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son who are happiest in or near the water, especially at the beach. Swakopmund remains her favourite place in Namibia, combining everything she loves most: ocean air, space to breathe and a lifestyle that feels like home.
After finishing high school, Sonja’s path included a little bit of everything - travel, work experience and learning along the way - which has shaped her into a versatile, grounded and practical team member. Her time in the UK and travels to places like Cape Town broadened her perspective, but also strengthened her appreciation for Namibia’s beauty, spirit and pace of life.
Back at NTS, Sonja works behind the scenes ensuring costings and percentage structures are accurate, sustainable and aligned with the long-term health of the business. Her role supports the financial foundations that allow the team to design competitive, profitable itineraries while continuing to deliver exceptional experiences for clients. She thrives in relaxed, welcoming environments and values being part of a team that genuinely enjoys working together.
Outside of work, Sonja channels her creativity through photography and marketing, capturing special moments and Namibia’s natural beauty whenever she can. She’s passionate about meaningful work, innovation and creating stability - both professionally and at home.
When it comes to travel, Sonja knows exactly what she likes: a luxury spa hotel, a good bottle of wine, and the sound of the sea nearby.
