His passion for conservation, the outdoors and wildlife developed at a young age, having grown up on a farm in the eastern part of Namibia. This sparked Richard’s love for nature and the raw beauty of the African bush. It was as simple as him completing his school career and then heading straight into tourism without a second thought. When you know, you know!
Richard began as a guest relations officer whilst studying to be a field guide through NATH (Namibia Academy for Tourism and Hospitality) and once completed, he went on to join a well-known lodge group in Namibia for a further 6 years gaining invaluable experience in the field.
He has been a freelance guide now for 8 years (and counting) and still loves it as much today, as the day he started out, if not even more so. Richard’s knowledge on fauna, flora, astronomy, geology and history are seriously impressive. This along with his pleasant manner, sociable smile and warm disposition, makes him one of the best in the business.
Richard is an even tempered and uncomplicated family man. He’s married with three kids and since they too spend hours in the open and out in nature, there’s no surprise if we’ll be welcoming three new guides onto the scene in years to come.
At home Richard speaks Afrikaans but he is fluent in English and also speaks 3 other local Namibian languages. He’s a true Namibian at heart.
He loves everything about Namibia but most loves the south for its landscapes and the ability to capture its beauty in a photo. Richard loves everything about being a guide but most loves that he gets to share this very special place with people. He says "Namibia is a country to be explored and my favorite place. One I gladly call home."
Our guides are exceptional human beings one and all. Their love of people, country, history, flora, fauna and a jolly good time is entirely contagious and their professionalism, expertise and trustworthiness will set your heart at ease from the moment you leave the arrivals terminal.
