Johan de Jager

Johan was born in Rustenburg in South Africa, but is of Namibian descent. His grandfather was appointed as the first police general for South Africa in Namibia in 1915. His childhood was spent growing up in the capital city of Windhoek and the lush wetlands of the Caprivi, which is still his favourite place in Namibia.

After his school years, Johan joined the South West African Police Force and later transferred to the military. Post service a visit to his sister in South Africa saw him working as a casino croupier and inspector, but the call of Namibia saw him return in 1992. Initially he worked for the family import and export business, which gave him the opportunity to tour Namibia as a sales representative, but what really happened was that Johan was sold on the beauty of Namibia.

When a friend offered him the chance to assist on a safari with a tour group in 1997, Johan jumped at the adventure and he’s never looked back. The beginning of what has turned out to be Johan’s life and passion since. He’s been a guide now for a quarter of a century and it shows. He’s brilliant at what he does.

Johan has guided for VIPs, film stars, foreign royalty and celebrities and, of course, many of our own clients over the years. He has a level 4 National Guide Qualification and speaks English, Afrikaans, German and Flemish. He’s outgoing and loves interacting with people (he’s great with kids too). Ask him anything about flora and fauna. He loves astronomy too. Take our word for it when we say he’s an excellent guide on all things Namibia.
