Charl Schoombee

Charl, like most excellent guides, gained a respect and love for nature garnered in his childhood. Growing up on a farm, he spent long days out in the bush and under blue skies exploring nature. A true Namibian.

He was drawn to Swakopmund in the early 90s to touch base with the tourism industry, he knew this was his calling, and in 1998 Charl ended up on safari to help a friend. That was the beginning and the end of it. He then relocated to the north of Namibia to delve into the world of camping safaris throughout the north eastern part of Namibia and Botswana, but in 2004 he moved back to the coast to join NTS as a freelance guide and he's been a part of the team ever since. Yay for us! (And for you if you have him as your guide!)

You'll almost never find him without his camera at the ready. Charl has a passion for bird and wildlife photography and he's got some impressive shots to boast. A serious hobby for Charl, he knows his way around a camera and says he's lucky this is all in a day's work. “Guiding is not a job but a lifestyle” and one he loves living.

Uncomfortably tall (for us, not for him) with long hair, a charming smile and a great sense of humor, when you're on tour with Charl you are in good company. And you're bound to learn a lot because he certainly knows a lot. Animals, plants, birds, geology or culture, if you've got a question, he's got an answer - and a good one at that!

Charl is patient and nurturing with a calm atmosphere about him and a genuine enthusiasm for what he does.  He loves smaller groups and individual tours that travel to off the beaten track destinations, the hidden wonders of Namibia and beyond. Wherever you are going, be assured, Charl will bring that personal touch to your safari and leave you with incredible memories. You'll be planning your next trip already before you've even left.
