Established in 1972 as part of the greater Kruger National Park, the Klaserie is one of the largest private reserves in South Africa. It is here, in a tranquil and secluded part of the reserve, that you’ll find Simbavati Amani. Built as an intimate homestead, the camp only has 4 Luxury Suites, and is perfect for an exclusive getaway for families or friends.
Upon arrival, you’ll first enter spacious living areas, including a mezzanine level for reading and yoga, and a double-volume sitting area with books and board games. Fanning out to both sides are 4 Luxury Suites, while the lounge opens up to an extensive entertainment area with infinity pool, pool terrace, open air bar, and campfire. From here, guests can enjoy uninterrupted views of the floodlit watering hole, and the resident wildlife stopping by to drink.
Days are spent on morning and afternoon game drives exploring the Klaserie and its vast tract of preserved land – dotted with beautiful trees and riverine vegetation near the Klaserie River. With an open fenceless border to the Kruger National Park in the north, and the Timbavati to the south-east, this is a raw wilderness experience with limited vehicles. There’s plenty to explore, and you might even spot wild dog, saddle-billed storks, and southern ground hornbills.
During the heat of the day, relax by the pool or enjoy a spa treatment. Come night time, dinner is served on the deck or around the fire in the open air boma – the perfect time to catch up with everyone on the day’s adventures.
Two guided game drives are offered daily, scheduled at guests’ leisure. You’ll traverse diverse terrain, from flat planes to rocky outcrops and hilly landscapes, in search of the Big Five, as well as wild dogs, hippo, giraffe, a variety of buck, and an array of birdlife. Stargazing is a popular night-time activity, and your stay can also be tailored to suit families.
