Flanking a huge dam in the southern Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, this intimate luxury lodge attracts large herds of wildlife, including predators, elephants, hippo and buffalo – drawn to the fresh water to drink. It makes for incredible wildlife sightings from the comfort of the lodge or your suite.
A stay here revolves around waterside living, with interiors reflecting natural elements. The main area comprises a wine cellar, curio shop, media room, and bar, with the lounge and dining area opening up onto a deck facing the dam. From there, the space flows to an outdoor seating deck, dining area, and Beach Boma with pizza oven at eye level with the dam’s water. 8 Suites fan out to each side, with the spa and gym, pool, and Bush Boma for dinner under the stars at the back.
The 2 water-facing Luxury Suites and 4 two-bedroom Luxury Family Suites overlook the dam, while 2 Luxury Suites with a private wood-fired KolKol hot tub (which can be used hot or cold) are tucked away in the bush – perfect for couples. The lodge’s main spaces are constructed in a way that affords privacy for couples, while also factoring in sociable spaces for families and friends.
Those looking to sleep under a star-speckled sky should book a night at the Shilope Sleep Out Deck. Located in a private part of the reserve, high above the Klaserie, it’s a remote spot for a romantic night in the wilderness.
Twice-daily game drives take guests into the heart of the Klaserie to discover roaming wildlife – with a scenic coffee stop in the morning, and magical sundowners on your afternoon drive. Special family safaris can also be arranged, with spa treatments available during the day. Several times a week, dinner is served campfire-style in the lantern-lit boma, surrounding a crackling fire.
