City time, Big Five country and a chance to experience Kruger on foot.
This 6-day journey combines a short stay in Johannesburg with a walking-focused safari in the Kruger National Park. After two nights in the city, you’ll fly to Skukuza and head into the bush for a night at Rhino Post Safari Lodge before continuing to Plains Camp, home of Rhino Walking Safaris.
The safari is designed for travellers who want to experience the bush at a slower pace. Walking gives you time to notice tracks, plants, sounds and smaller details that are often missed from a vehicle, while still offering the excitement of being in one of Africa’s great wildlife areas.
Days 1 & 2: Johannesburg
Day 3: Johannesburg to Kruger
Days 4 & 5: Rhino Walking Safaris
Day 6: Departure

Days 1 & 2: Johannesburg
On arrival at OR Tambo International Airport, you’ll be met and transferred to The Peech Hotel, where you’ll spend your first two nights.
This gives you time to recover from your journey and enjoy Johannesburg at a relaxed pace before heading into the bush. You can spend the following day exploring the city, visiting some of its cultural and historical highlights, enjoying its restaurants and galleries or simply taking things easy before the safari begins.

The Peech Hotel
Day 3: Johannesburg to Kruger
After breakfast, transfer back to OR Tambo International Airport for your scheduled flight to Skukuza. On arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to Rhino Post Safari Lodge, set within the Kruger National Park.
This first night in the bush is a good introduction to the landscape and wildlife of Kruger, with time to settle in and start adjusting to the rhythm of safari life. Depending on timing, there may be an opportunity to head out on a game drive and begin looking for elephant, buffalo, giraffe, antelope and predators.
Accommodation:
Rhino Post Safari Lodge
Days 4 & 5: Rhino Walking Safaris
On Day 4, you’ll transfer from Rhino Post to Plains Camp, the base for Rhino Walking Safaris.
From here, the focus shifts firmly to exploring on foot. Guided walks take you into the surrounding wilderness with an experienced guide and scout, allowing you to discover the bush from a completely different perspective. Rather than covering large distances, you’ll spend time reading tracks, identifying plants, listening for wildlife and learning more about how the ecosystem fits together. There is still every chance of encountering larger animals, but the real appeal lies in slowing down and noticing the things that are easy to miss from a safari vehicle.
Your second day gives you more time to walk, explore and enjoy the remoteness of this part of Kruger, with game drives also forming part of the overall safari experience.
Accommodation:
Plains Camp at Rhino Walking Safaris
Day 6: Departure
After your final morning in the bush, transfer back to Skukuza Airport for your onward flight. Your trip ends after a compact but varied journey combining Johannesburg with a more immersive walking safari experience in the Kruger National Park.
