Simbavati Trails Camp offers an intimate walking safari, set in one of the most remote corners of the Timbavati. With no WiFi, no vehicles, and no children under 16, the camp is intentionally unplugged – an experience for adventurous travellers who want to feel part of the wild.
Only operational during the cooler South African autumn to spring days from March to November, this is safari as it once was: light footprint, deep connection, and no distractions. With just 4 Meru-style tents, the camp borders 11,000 hectares of unfenced wilderness within the Greater Kruger, offering the rare thrill of exploring the bush on foot with expert walking guides.
Days begin at first light, when you set off tracking wildlife, learning to read the ground, listen to the wind, and tune into the bush’s subtle signs. Encounters here are never rushed, whether you’re following lion footprints or pausing to study tiny details that are often missed from a vehicle.
Each canvas tent is simple yet comfortable, with twin beds, an ensuite bathroom, compostable toilet, basin, and a hot bucket shower on demand. Between walks, relax around the camp’s small plunge pool, while evenings mean gathering around the campfire, where dinner emerges from the flames – think hearty bush cuisine and pot bread baked in embers.
Early mornings begin with tea or coffee before heading out on a walking safari, exploring the bush with expert guides who reveal tracks, scents, sounds, and behaviours. Following the afternoon walk, gather for ‘fire-to-table’ dinners, and enjoy exceptional stargazing.
