“Generally speaking all went very well… we completed over 4,000 km and the Fortuner handled everything with style and comfort.”
This 26-day self-drive educational journey gave a tour operator the opportunity to experience a wide range of Southern Africa’s landscapes, lodges and safari regions firsthand while travelling in an NTS Fortuner that proved more than capable of handling Namibia’s long gravel roads and remote routes.
Beginning in Cape Town and the Cederberg before crossing into Namibia, the journey moved through the dramatic scenery of Fish River Canyon and the wild desert landscapes of Aus and Sossusvlei. Fish River Lodge stood out for its extraordinary canyon views, while Sossusvlei Desert Lodge impressed as one of the finest properties on the itinerary, with exceptional suites and a spectacular desert setting. Swakopmund provided a welcome coastal break before the route continued north into Damaraland and Etosha.
Safari highlights included Anderssons at Ongava and Onguma The Fort, where excellent guiding and wildlife encounters made Etosha a memorable stop despite the vast scale of the park. Continuing into Namibia’s lush north, Divava Lodge and Nambwa Tented Lodge offered a contrast to the desert regions, with river landscapes and abundant wildlife, before the journey crossed into Botswana for a standout stay at Chobe Game Lodge.
The trip concluded at the iconic Victoria Falls Hotel, where the grandeur of the falls and the historic setting provided a fitting finale to an extensive exploration of the region.
A comprehensive educational safari covering more than 4,000 kilometres - showcasing Namibia’s remarkable diversity, from deserts and canyons to wetlands and world-class safari destinations.
