Still going strong after 105 years, the Victoria Falls Hotel is an oasis of calm in the turmoil of Victoria Falls and the maelstrom of Zimbabwe's downward spiral.

Situated on the edge of Victoria Falls National Park, the falls viewing area is a 10-minute walk along a private pathway within view of the spray, the Batoka Gorge and the beautiful Victoria Falls Bridge, from which there is usually some clown dangling at the end of an elasticated rope.

Beyond the palatial confines of this lavish hotel and extensive manicured grounds, the Victoria Falls area has plenty of must-do activities after visiting the falls. The Flight of Angels is the best way to see and experience the power and size of this natural wonder of the world; wildlife activities focus on rehabilitation programmes and fascinating interaction with lions and elephants (not petting, mind, interacting where you have a stick in case the lion gets frisky and you actually go game viewing atop a kindly old elephant).
