From here, mornings begin with a pre-drive coffee as hippos grunt across the dam, and the day unfolds slowly with the shifting light across the river.
Daily game drives explore the Timbavati, part of the Greater Kruger with unfenced borders that allow wildlife to roam freely. This is prime Big Five territory, especially renowned for leopard and the chance of encountering wild dog, who’re thriving amongst giraffe, zebra, warthogs, hyena, and many antelope species. After your morning drive, cool off in your private pool, book an in-room spa treatment, or enjoy a good book and a nap.
Mvubu is relaxed yet refined, with a fully-equipped kitchen and open-plan entertainment spaces created for self-catering. For those who prefer not to cook, dinner can also be enjoyed at neighbouring Simbavati Hilltop Lodge; or gather around the boma fire on your return from your evening game drive. A standout feature is the elevated sleep-out deck on the first floor – an inviting daybed by day that transforms into a magical place to fall asleep under African stars.
Head out on game drives at first light and again in the late afternoon when the bush becomes most active. As the sun drops, vehicles pause for sundowners. After dark, keep an eye out for nocturnal wildlife under the spotlight on the drive back to the cottage. On clear nights, your guide can point out constellations during a stargazing session.
