A remote lagoon-side safari in one of Zambia’s most wildlife-rich regions
Set on the edge of a permanent lagoon deep within South Luangwa National Park, this secluded, seasonal bush camp is open between May and November and offers an authentic safari experience on the Luangwa River. Framed by the Chindeni Hills and shaded by a grove of ancient ebony trees, the elevated 4-tent camp overlooks a busy watering hole where elephant, giraffe, puku, hippo, and a host of birdlife are regular visitors.
Built on stilts, the camp’s elevated main area enjoys sweeping views across the lagoon, with a relaxed lounge, dining area and bar opening onto viewing decks. Designed to immerse guests in the surrounding landscape, it is as rewarding to spend time in camp as it is to head out on safari, with wildlife often visible throughout the day.
Accommodation comprises 4 raised Meru-style tented suites, including 1 family unit. Spacious and comfortable, they combine canvas and timber finishes with thoughtful touches such as private plunge pools, indoor and outdoor showers, and shaded decks overlooking the lagoon.
As part of the Bushcamp Company circuit, Chindeni places a strong emphasis on walking safaris – including inter-camp walks to Chamilandu and Bilimungwe – allowing guests to experience the bush at an immersive pace.
Morning and afternoon game drives explore the diverse habitats of South Luangwa National Park, renowned for its leopard sightings, large elephant herds and abundant plains game. Guided walking safaris are a highlight, offering a deeper understanding of the bush and the opportunity to track wildlife on foot. Guests can also enjoy sundowners in scenic locations, night drives in search of nocturnal species, and inter-camp walks linking Chindeni with neighbouring Bushcamp Company properties.
