Day-to-day Itinerary

Days 1–3: Cape Town

Begin with three nights in Cape Town, giving you plenty of time to settle in and explore the city’s food scene.

Cape Town is a great place to start a culinary journey, with everything from creative fine dining and lively neighbourhood restaurants to markets, bakeries, seafood and excellent coffee. You can spend your days exploring the city at your own pace, with time for Table Mountain, the Waterfront, the Peninsula or simply a long lunch followed by an afternoon beside the sea.

Sea Point also puts you close to some of the city’s best restaurants while giving you easy access to the Atlantic Seaboard and central Cape Town.

Accommodation:
The Winchester Hotel

Days 4 & 5: Franschhoek & the Winelands

On Day 4, collect your car and head into the Cape Winelands.

Your next two nights are spent at Boschendal, surrounded by vineyards, orchards, mountains and farmland. This is the kind of place where food is very much part of the experience, with fresh produce, estate wines and a strong farm-to-table focus.

Spend your time exploring the estate, enjoying wine tastings and leisurely meals, or venture into nearby Franschhoek and Stellenbosch for more cellar doors and restaurants.

With two nights here, there’s no need to rush between tastings. Pick a few favourites, take your time and enjoy the scenery in between.

Accommodation:
Boschendal Farm

Days 6 & 7: Riebeek Valley & Swartland

From the Winelands, continue into the quieter countryside of the Swartland region.

You’ll spend two nights at Bartholomeus Klip, where the emphasis shifts from busy wine routes to open farmland, nature and beautifully prepared meals.

This is a good place to slow down. Enjoy long breakfasts, relaxed lunches and dinners using seasonal local ingredients, with time between meals for walks, nature drives or simply enjoying the rural setting.

The wider Swartland is also known for its increasingly exciting wine scene, so you may want to visit a few small producers along the way.

Accommodation:
Bartholomeus Klip

Days 8 & 9: Cederberg

On Day 8, continue north towards the Cederberg, where the scenery becomes wilder and more dramatic.

The region is known for its rugged mountains, unusual rock formations and wide-open spaces, but there’s also a strong local food culture shaped by farms, small producers and seasonal ingredients.

Spend two nights enjoying the slower pace of the Cederberg, with time for walking, exploring the surrounding landscape and lingering over meals back at the lodge.

It’s a lovely contrast to the Winelands: less polished, more remote and very peaceful.

Accommodation:
Cederberg Ridge Wilderness Lodge

Days 10 & 11: Paternoster & the West Coast

From the mountains, drive west towards the Atlantic and the fishing village of Paternoster.

Your final two nights are spent beside the sea, where seafood naturally takes centre stage. Expect fresh fish, mussels and other local flavours, with a very different feel from the vineyard and farm-based dining earlier in the trip.

Spend your time walking along the beach, exploring the village and enjoying long, relaxed meals with ocean views. The West Coast has a much slower rhythm, making it an ideal place to finish the journey.

Accommodation:
Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel

Day 12: Departure

After breakfast, check out and begin your onward journey to Cape Town International Airport, where you hand in your car and check in for your flight home.

By the end of the trip, you’ll have experienced a broad taste of the Western Cape, from Cape Town restaurants and Winelands estates to country cooking, Cederberg produce and fresh seafood on the West Coast.
