Kruger National Park
5 stars

One of the smaller Kruger camps, family-run by expert guides

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Formerly the home of the Walkers family, the solar powered Plains Camp was opened up to visitors from across the world in 2018. Built on an open plain savannah with views of the Drakensburg Mountains in the 500 km2  Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, it’s part of the world famous Kruger National Park. That’s Big 5 territory by the way. A place where you can see the kind of big predators most safari enthusiasts can’t wait to view.

8 safari rooms with plains views that are far from ordinary

There are 8 air conditioned rooms at Walkers Plains Camp, 6 of which are 1-bed safari rooms, with the others classed as 2-bed family accommodation.

All rooms have kingsize beds with views of the plains, a mini-bar, and ensuite bathrooms with a shower, WC, freestanding bathtub and twin wash basins. Outside, there’s a private deck with plunge pool and an outdoor shower. The family rooms have an additional shower and toilet. Wi-fi access is available across all rooms, and the entire camp in fact.

A modern main lodge delivering all you need

Everything you’d expect from a contemporary camp’s communal facilities is here for you. That includes a swimming pool, an open plan dining area, bar, and lounge, plus a little library and larger open air boma. Take your pick from a variety of places you can sit with binoculars trained on the plains on the lookout for wildlife.

Activities

The camp is open all year round, and wildlife including lion and herds of elephant are free to roam close to the camp and often do so. Game drives leave Plains twice daily, even during the wet season which runs from November to March. Seated comfortably in an open 4x4, you’ll be exploring South Africa’s premier national park – Kruger. Its reputation is well earned, as the park is rich with opportunities to spy the Big 5 as well as a huge range of bird species and plant life.

Your guides on expeditions out into the reserve could well be one of the twin Walker family brothers who run the camp. Having grown up in the area, their local knowledge is second to none, so you’ll learn plenty and venture to the places where wildlife with the wow factor is found most often – we’re talking lion (and potentially white lion), elephant, cheetah, buffalo, rhino, leopard, giraffe, zebra, wild dog and wildebeest. Bush walks at sunrise are also offered by the team, giving you a chance to explore the insects and plant life at close quarters. And to ensure you capture the best images of your experience, why not take a photography class during your stay?
