Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Bordering Kruger National Park, andBeyond Tengile River Lodge occupies a secluded position on a bend of the Sand River within South Africa’s famous Sabi Sand Nature Reserve. The private reserve shares unfenced borders with the Kruger, allowing wildlife to move freely through more than two million hectares of protected wilderness.

Renowned for leopard sightings and Big Five game viewing, as well as over 500 bird species and some 145 animal species, Tengile is one of only two lodges (the other being sister lodge Kirkman’s Kamp) with exclusive traversing rights to more than 10,500 hectares of this celebrated safari destination.

The lodge features 9 expansive stilted suites, leading off to each side and tucked beneath a canopy of riverine forest. Created with natural materials and earthy colours, each suite enjoys uninterrupted river views and includes a lounge, dining area, and private bar, flowing onto an expansive deck with a plunge pool and sunken outdoor lounge. Ensuite bathrooms feature freestanding baths with sliding doors to open up to panoramic views, as well as indoor and outdoor showers. Two of the lodge’s suites are connected by a covered walkway to create a spacious family unit.

Designed to maximise its riverside setting, the open-plan main area features floor-to-ceiling windows and combines striking contemporary architecture with terrazzo floors, bespoke furniture, modern art, and seamless indoor-outdoor living. Elevated decks overlook the Sand River, while a pool, glass-ensconced massage sala offering Healing Earth treatments, and a gym provide space to relax between game drives. You might even spot wildlife from the comfort of the lodge, including elephants who gather in the riverbed to cool off.

Dining can be enjoyed in a variety of settings, from the lodge deck to private outdoor spaces overlooking the river, and guests can take advantage of complimentary cooking lessons around an interactive kitchen. In the evening, the stylish firepit is a convivial spot to come together for drinks and stories of the day’s activities.
