Enjoying a prime setting within the private Timbavati Game Reserve, which shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park, Hilltop Lodge sits perched on a hillside, with striking views of the wilderness and Drakensberg Mountains in the distance. Designed with a light touch to preserve the pristine surroundings, the lodge’s main area is set around a large deck. You’ll find a lounge with books and board games, a scenic bar, dining tent and alfresco dining area, infinity pool, and a romantic firepit and boma with river views.
Reached via wooden walkways, the 8 Luxury Safari Tents spread out on both sides of the main lodge. Raised on stilts, each suite features a large bedroom and ensuite bathroom tent. French doors open out onto a viewing deck with a plunge pool, double rain shower, and a sala pavilion with day bed, with expansive vistas of the bushveld, the dam, and the river.
Explore the Timbavati’s thriving eco-system on daily game drives – in-between, cool off in the pool, relax on your day bed, indulge in an in-room spa treatment, and enjoy fresh local cuisine, as well as atmospheric evening drinks around the fire at the boma.
Setting off on early morning and late afternoon games drives, you’ll have the chance to spot the Big Five, as well as healthy numbers of giraffe, zebra, warthogs, hyena, and many antelope species. During the second outing of the day, you’ll stop for atmospheric sundowners in the bush, with a nocturnal drive back to the lodge and dinner on the deck.
