Pel's Post Lodge

Kruger National Park
5 stars

A quality quartet of lodges on the banks of the Luvuvhu river in Northern Kruger.

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Pel? How come Pel gets to put their name to a beautiful collection of four luxurious lodges hugging the banks of the Luvuvhu River?

Well, Pel is actually a rare species of fishing owl local to this part of the world. One of 350 different types of beautiful bird that help make this area of northern Kruger so popular with birding enthusiasts (so don’t forget to pack your binoculars).

Choose Pel’s for privacy

Sightings of Pel’s fishing owls are rare and highly prized. Something else that’s rarely sighted at Pel’s Post are people and vehicles, as there are only a quartet of quality suites available to let, hosting a maximum of 8 guests at any one time between them. Reserve one, or book them all for a group of friends, it’s up to you. Either way, if you’re seeking seclusion and prize your privacy, a stay at Pel’s is going to suit you down to the ground.

Pel’s Post is the sister property of The Outpost, which is located further up the hillside and on the clifftop. Pel’s lower valley location affords you views that guests have described as jaw-dropping, breath-taking, and amazing. We’ll leave you to choose your adjectives when you get here and see them for yourself.

Expand your view with ease

Suffice to say, these are suites (or ‘spaces’ as the owners prefer to call them) that are as popular for their views of the remote location as they are for the quality of their furnishings and fittings. And while we’re talking remote, yes, there’s one for the flatscreen TV in your lodge. But you’ll find another that slides back the screens on three sides of your space, opening it out and giving you a view of the beautiful wilderness that’s sure to impress.

Another of its benefits is that sliding back the screens helps with ventilation, as there’s no air conditioning in any of the lodges, only ceiling fans. So letting a cooling natural breeze blow through will be welcome, especially if you’re planning a stay during the height of the South African summer.

Wonder at the wildlife

Whatever season you visit, a Pel’s Post lodge makes for the ideal base from which to launch your safari adventures. It’s a land teeming with wildlife, with chances of seeing herds of elephant and buffalo high, while lion, leopard and rhino are lesser spotted in this area of Kruger, much like the aforementioned fishing owls.

That’s unlikely to prevent you from enjoying the views of the river and the distinctive chunky-trunked baobab trees that are dotted about the plains below as you relax on your main deck. You’ll no doubt visit the communal areas of Pel’s Post at some point to dine in style and to refresh in the pool or bar, perhaps sharing your plans and experiences with fellow guests living the good life with you.

The last word in luxury

More luxury awaits when you’re ready to call it a day. The open plan bathroom gives you a choice to kick back and relax in an oversized bathtub, or let the showers (located inside and out) refresh and relax you before it’s time for your kingsize bed to help you recharge ready for whatever tomorrow has in store…
