One of the original lodges providing accommodation for visitors to the Victoria Falls, Masuwe benefits from being close enough to one of the seven wonders of the natural world to make access easy (it’s just a 15 minute drive away), and far enough away to offer peace and tranquillity.
Located on a tree-covered hill close to the Masuwe River, you can take safari trips into the Zambezi National Park from here. But it’s the Falls and the activities offered in and around the area that provide the main attraction for the majority of visitors. Animal sightings from here are modest at best but will likely include warthog, hyena, impala and bushbuck.
9 Wilderness Tents:
With thatched roofs and canvas walls, each of the tents has its own viewing deck from where you can watch sunrises and sunsets as well as animal activity in camp. You’ll sleep in either a double bed or one of two single beds, and have a stone bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity sink within easy reach.
The Hide-Away
This is for two guests who value privacy and luxury above all else. It’s located deep in the bush with views of a small waterhole that attracts all kinds of wildlife. There’s a double-size shower indoors and a bathtub outside. You get to choose which drinks are in the minibar so you can enjoy your favourite tipple while you relax together.
The Private Family Nest
You’ll find two ensuite bedrooms and a living room, kitchenette and minibar in this two level house in the bush. Ideal for a family of 4 or a group of friends, there’s also a covered deck area next to a square plunge pool right outside the house. You can choose to prepare your food in the kitchenette, or outside in your very own BBQ braai area.
All guests enjoy access to the communal facilities here, with the open plan dining room and lounge proving as popular as the swimming pool and large outdoor viewing deck. You can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, picking from a menu with an international flavour. Sundowners on the viewing platform seem to be a popular way to round off the day, with the sunsets providing an impressive backdrop and photo opportunities.
The list of activities on offer to guests at Masuwe Lodge is a long and varied one. If you’re ready for a soaking, try white water rafting on the Zambezi River. You can slow down the pace with a more sedate cruise along the water (offered for free if you stay for at least 3 nights), and take it easy on dry land exploring local craft markets or shopping in Victoria Falls town centre (just 7km from the lodge).Thrill seekers will likely literally jump at the chance to bungee or zipline over the Zambezi. And no visit to the area can really be called complete without a safari drive into the Chamabonda Vlei, or a guided walk through the Masuwe Sanctuary. These expeditions start twice daily from the lodge in the morning and evening, giving you a chance to see a good range of wildlife, both on the ground and in the air.
