Think of this as a private residence with hotel-style services. Because booking a stay here gives you access to a concierge who’s on-hand to provide assistance, book excursions and answer any questions you may have. You get a private chef to prepare your meals in the villa’s kitchen, so you can concentrate on important things like relaxing. There’s a housekeeping service too so all those daily chores like making beds and cleaning showers can be handled by someone else. And you’ll enjoy access to spa facilities via a car service that will take you to the Karula Spa & Wellness Centre and bring you back.
There’s a classic, traditional look and feel to the villa, the high thatched roof with exposed wooden beams, and the dark wood furnishings and fittings in the open plan living, kitchen and dining area neatly summing up the style.
There are plenty of sofas and chairs to choose from, each with cushions you can arrange just as you like them and always a table nearby to rest your coffee cups or stack your books. Rugs on the walls and ornaments on the shelves and surfaces ensure you get to enjoy the spirit of Africa when you spend time in here – just don’t forget to say hi to the handsome hippo sculpture every morning.
Take a break from breakfasts, leave lunch to someone else, and delegate dinner to your private chef. Getting someone else to sort out the food really helps dial up the luxury levels. And the villa has plenty of places where you can enjoy the fruits, vegetables and desserts of your chef’s labours.
Choose to gather round the dining table that shares space with the living room and kitchen in the open plan area. Grab a snack, coffee or enjoy a meal on a stool at the breakfast bar overlooking the kitchen while you watch your private chef at work.
Head out through the patio doors into a covered dining area with its large table and chairs – there’s plenty of room for 6 and another bar with stools and a sink overlooking the garden out here.
Or make yourselves at home in the garden’s beautiful boma. The space is enclosed by a low wall and tree branches that give the necessary snug feel to the area. There’s room to build a small fire at its centre, and enough chairs for everyone to gather round to enjoy food cooked on the barbecue while you make plans for what you’ll all do tomorrow.
The Kruger homestead features three bedrooms, each with a four poster bed at its heart. You’re guaranteed a comfortable night’s rest on the quality mattresses, with mosquito nets helping ensure you don’t get disturbed by bugs.
The views you’ll wake up to are something to look forward to, as each of the rooms overlooks the garden. And you won’t have far to walk to get ready to get outside and enjoy the garden as all bedrooms have an ensuite bathroom with a freestanding rolltop bathtub, walk-in shower and plenty of shelf space to store your gels, creams, lotions, shampoos and whatever else you bring.
You’re not just here to lap up the luxury of course. There are sights to see that you can only see in this part of the world. And staying here gives you access to a private safari vehicle with guide and assistant that heads out twice daily into the Kapama reserve to give you a closer look at the mammals, birds and plant life that call the plains home.
If you’re travelling as a family, you can make use of the children’s activity programme run by the homestead team, giving the adults a chance to enjoy some me-time.
And of course, no self-respecting luxury villa would be complete without a swimming pool. This one’s all yours and yours alone, along with the loungers on the deck. Wonder where that staircase leads to…
At Kapama Kruger Homestead, guests can enjoy a wide variety of activities that immerse them in the stunning African wilderness. Game drives and guided walks offer the chance to spot the Big 5 – lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards and rhinos – along with a wealth of other wildlife in their natural habitat. Bird watching is a popular pastime, with numerous species to be seen throughout the reserve. For a unique experience, the game viewing hide allows for an intimate, up-close look at animals in their environment. Guests can also enjoy animal encounters, offering unforgettable interactions with some of the region's most iconic species. After a day of exploration, indulge in a relaxing massage or afternoon high tea, with safaris and wildlife tours providing deeper insight into the area’s ecosystems.
