Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Many camps claim to offer a genuine safari experience. But here’s a bush camp that goes further than most to ensure that’s what you get. There’s no sacrificing comfort though in a camp that does all it can to make the smallest possible impact on its surroundings with solar powered lighting contributing to its sustainability credentials

It’s the prevalence of camelthorn trees that give this camp its name, located near the Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe Corridor. The camp’s creators have chosen this location wisely, as it’s rich with wildlife and close to the Khwai River, bringing water-based activities into play.

7 Oasis tents

Each of the 7 tents has twin beds, access to a private patio and an ensuite bathroom with flushing WC and that traditional bucket shower – not many camps these days offer the chance to freshen up like this.

Trips into the bush, day and night

Choose from a range of game drives that’ll keep you on the edge of your car seat, eyes peeled for wildlife, with expert rangers and trackers taking you to the most fruitful places for sightings. And guests who’ve stayed here report seeing lion, elephant and other big game.

Choose from half-day and full-day expeditions to the Moremi Game Reserve and Khwai River. At the latter, the chance to explore the calm and soothing waterways aboard a mokoro (canoe) usually proves too good for guests to resist.

The night drive is another popular choice, as it increases your chances of seeing leopard and hyena, plus a whole host of nocturnal wildlife. And a guided bush walk gives you opportunities to get close to the smaller, lesser spotted members of the local wildlife community.

Great days ending around the fire

Gathering around the firepit with fellow camp dwellers before and after dinner is popular here. It’s a chance to share stories and experiences to the tune of animals in the bush making whatever sounds come naturally to them.

A trio of tents provide communal spaces to meet specific needs. The lounge tent is home to comfy seating with cushions for when you want to get feet up and a paperback out to power down after a safari or at the end of the day. With only a maximum of 14 guests in camp at any one time, finding a vacant chair and plenty of cushions won’t ever be a problem.

The bar tent is your destination for a spot of liquid refreshment, particularly popular when it’s sundowner o’clock. There’s also a solar-powered charging station to keep your devices juiced-up should you need them.

The purpose of the dining tent needs no explanation. Enjoy meals in here or outside under the stars if you like, and help yourselves to drinks from the tea and coffee station throughout the day.

Activities

Camelthorn Bush Camp offers a classic, low-impact safari experience in the heart of Moremi. Guests can enjoy twice-daily game drives led by knowledgeable guides, with excellent opportunities to encounter elephants, big cats, and the diverse wildlife of the Okavango ecosystem. Bush walks provide a more intimate look at tracks, plants, and smaller creatures, while seasonal birdwatching is outstanding. Evenings are spent around the campfire, sharing stories under the stars and listening to the sounds of the bush.

Sustainability

Camelthorn Bush Camp is designed to leave the lightest possible footprint on its pristine Moremi surroundings. The entire camp runs off-grid on solar power, with a battery system that minimises generator use. Tents are raised and non-permanent, ensuring the land remains undisturbed, while water usage is carefully managed through eco-friendly shower systems and responsible waste-water practices. Natural materials, low-impact structures, and biodegradable amenities all support the camp’s sustainability ethos. By combining responsible operations with meaningful wilderness experiences, Camelthorn protects the environment it depends on while allowing guests to enjoy it respectfully.
