The Zambezi River camp that delights in giving guests more

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Here’s a camp that seems to have two of a lot of things that most camps are content to have just one of. You’ll see what we mean when you read on. Suffice to say here that the location on the banks of the Zambezi River brings both land and water into play when it comes to views and activities, in a camp that’s been delighting guests since 2012.

The style of the place veers toward the luxurious, with facilities of a high standard, and a private butler service available. And it justifiably refers to itself as small and intimate, as there are just 4 tents in camp.

3 standard luxury and 1 family tent

Luxury doesn’t often come as standard, but that appears to be the case here. The quartet of tents are spaced out along the river bank, in the shade of the branches of mahogany and acacia trees, so you get comfort, views of the water and privacy.

The trio of standard luxury tents each has either a kingsize fourposter or two single beds, plus a day bed and an ensuite bathroom in which you’ll find twin wash basins (a fairly common feature at safari destinations) and twin showers (not so common). There is, however, just the one claw-footed bath tub. But you do get a hammock for two out on the balcony, where you’ll also find two deckchairs and  a plunge pool.

The family tent – also known as the Family House - has similar bathing and relaxing facilities, but sports the added bonus of a big living and dining area that connects to the balcony which is in between the two bedrooms – each of which has an ensuite bathroom.

Head along the walkways to the main camp

Guess what? There are two lounges in the communal area of camp, which you access via raised wooden walkways from your tent. The lounges are close to the bar, boma and campfire area, with the team here seemingly pretty relaxed about where you eat your breakfast and dinner, with a long wooden table available for communal dining if you and your fellow guests fancy that.

Activities

Activities on dry land and the wet stuff. Keeping the ‘two’ theme going, there are two game viewing vehicles and two boats permanently available for camp guests to travel in (with guides) on land and water-based adventures. Spotting various wildlife is a popular pastime of course, with buffalo, elephant, hippo and lion particularly prevalent, leopard, zebra, hyena and wild dog slightly less so. There’s a strong bird presence, especially along the Chifungulu Channel.

Birdwatching and canoeing are both activities offered here, so too fishing, but only on a catch, take a quick photo and release basis. If you’ve never caught a tigerfish before, here’s your chance.
