Grand Convoy Camping and Lodging Combo

Grand Convoy Camping and Lodging Combo

This 10-day convoy safari is designed for travellers who want the freedom of self-drive travel, with the comfort of an experienced guide close by.

You’ll travel in your own fully equipped camping vehicle with a rooftop tent, following a lead guide in convoy and staying connected via two-way radio. Ideal for couples or families (up to four people per vehicle), this format allows you to be fully independent while benefiting from local knowledge, route guidance and on-the-ground support.

The route covers Namibia’s classic highlights, travelling from Windhoek to Sossusvlei, on to Swakopmund, then through Damaraland, finishing with wildlife-rich days in Etosha National Park (South and East).

Most nights are spent camping under Namibia’s wide skies, with a hotel stay on the first night in Windhoek and two nights in Swakopmund for comfort and contrast. It’s an adventurous, social and reassuring way to experience Namibia — independent, but never alone.

Day-to-day Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Windhoek
Breakfast Included
(1 night)

Your Namibian adventure begins on arrival in Windhoek, where you’ll be met and transferred to your overnight stop. The afternoon is intentionally easy — time to settle in, recover from travel and ease into the rhythm of Africa. Later, you’ll meet your convoy guide for a casual welcome briefing, covering the route ahead, vehicle basics and how the two-way radio system works. Dinner is at your leisure, with plenty of excellent local restaurants to choose from.

Overnight: Belvedere Boutique Hotel

Day 2 & 3 – Sossusvlei
Self-Catering
(2 nights)

After breakfast and a final opportunity to stock up on supplies, the convoy heads south out of Windhoek, leaving the city behind for wide open landscapes and ever-changing scenery. Your guide leads the way, setting an easy pace and sharing insights over the two-way radio as the Namib Desert slowly comes into view. By afternoon, you’ll arrive near Sossusvlei, with time to settle into camp, enjoy a swim, stretch your legs or simply watch the desert light soften as the dunes glow at sunset.

An early start on the second day brings you into the heart of Namibia’s most iconic desert landscapes. Entering the park at sunrise, you’ll spend the day exploring the towering dunes of Sossusvlei, the stark beauty of Dead Vlei, Dune 45 and the Sesriem Canyon. A packed lunch is enjoyed in the desert before returning to camp in the late afternoon. For those wanting an unforgettable perspective, optional activities such as a hot air balloon safari can be arranged.

Overnight: Sesriem Oshana Campsites

Day 4 & 5 – Swakopmund
Breakfast Included
(2 nights)

Leaving the desert behind, the convoy heads west toward the Atlantic Ocean, with the landscape gradually shifting from rolling dunes to open gravel plains and, finally, the cool coastal air of Swakopmund. On arrival, you’ll check into your guesthouse and enjoy the simple luxury of a proper bed, hot showers and a slower pace after days in the desert. The evening is yours to explore — stroll along the promenade, browse local shops or choose from one of the town’s many excellent cafés and restaurants.

The following day is set aside to enjoy Swakopmund at leisure. Optional activities range from adrenaline-filled adventures such as sandboarding and quad biking in the dunes, to relaxed boat cruises in nearby Walvis Bay or scenic flights along the Skeleton Coast. Alternatively, spend the day wandering the beachfront, visiting galleries and markets, or simply soaking up the seaside atmosphere before the journey continues inland.

Overnight: Fritz Manor

Day 6 – Damaraland
Self-Catering
(1 night)

Heading north, the convoy follows the dramatic edge of the Skeleton Coast via Henties Bay, with stops at the Lichen Fields, a coastal shipwreck and the bustling Cape Cross Seal Reserve. From Henties Bay, the route turns inland through wide open plains to Uis and on to the Twyfelfontein area.

The afternoon focuses on Damaraland’s highlights, including the Twyfelfontein Rock Engravings, Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain, with a cultural visit to the Damara Living Museum. If time allows, a 4x4 drive into the Huab River offers a chance to look for desert-adapted elephants and other wildlife, making the most of your single night in this remarkable region.

Overnight: Madisa Camp

Day 7 – Etosha National Park (South)
Half-board
(1 night)

Today’s journey takes you toward Namibia’s premier wildlife destination. After a relaxed breakfast, the convoy travels east, stopping en route for fuel, supplies and lunch. Entering Etosha in the afternoon, your first game drive begins immediately, with wildlife encounters unfolding around waterholes as your guide shares sightings over the radio.

Overnight: Etosha Omusati Lodge

Day 8 – Etosha South to Etosha East
Self-Catering
(1 night)

The convoy heads inland into Damaralandand toward the Brandberg massif. The day is spent exploring the surrounding area, with the option to visit the famous White Lady rock painting or enjoy scenic walks and viewpoints. This is raw, untamed Namibia at its best.

Day 8 & 9 – Etosha South to Etosha East
Self-Catering
(2 nights)

The journey across Etosha from south to east unfolds as a classic safari day. Driving slowly through the park in convoy, you’ll stop regularly at waterholes, watching wildlife drift in and out — elephants, giraffes, plains game and, with luck, predators drawn to the pan. Lunch is enjoyed overlooking the vast Etosha Pan before continuing east toward your campsite. If you prefer, a guided game drive in an open safari vehicle can be arranged through the lodge (optional).

The second day is deliberately left open and unhurried. As the final full day of the safari, it’s the perfect opportunity to make the most of your time in Etosha — whether that means spending the day on game drives, revisiting favourite waterholes, exploring the surrounding area or simply slowing down and enjoying the rhythm of the bush. It’s a chance to savour the experience before the journey home begins.

Overnight: Onguma Tamboti Campsite

Day 10 – Etosha East to Windhoek

After a final early morning drive or relaxed breakfast, it’s time to leave Etosha and head back south to Windhoek. Vehicles are returned on arrival, followed by a transfer to the airport for onward travel. A late-afternoon or evening flight is recommended for a smooth end to the journey.
