Lion Sands Treehouses

Lion Sands Treehouses

Kruger National Park
5 stars

Forming part of the greater Sabi Sand and Kruger ecosystems, Lion Sands offers a pristine wilderness experience. To add to the feeling of remote bush living – without compromising on comfort or style – guests can book a night at one of three exclusive treehouses when staying at the reserve’s River, Ivory, Narina, or Tinga lodges.

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Set in remote corners of the Lion Sands Game Reserve, these ‘bush bedrooms’ invite you to disconnect from the modern world and immerse yourself in the wild under a starlit sky. Each treehouse offers a unique setting and design, but all three are composed of open-air platforms safely raised above the ground, fully equipped with creature comforts, and completely secure.

Arriving at dusk with your guide, you’ll be welcomed with a picnic-style sunset dinner, a stocked drinks cabinet, lantern lighting, and a warm bed draped in netting. After that, it’s just you, the stars, and the nocturnal sounds of the African bush. While there's no Wi-Fi or cell signal, a radio connects you to your ranger at all times, giving you peace of mind and the freedom to truly unplug. The experience concludes the following morning, when your guide returns at sunrise with a strong cup of coffee.

Chalkley Treehouse, Lion Sands

For guests staying at Ivory Lodge and River Lodge

The original – and simplest – Lion Sands treehouse and a tribute to explorer Guy Aubrey Chalkley, who once camped on this very spot. Built around a 500-year-old Leadwood tree, this iconic sleepout features a  romantic, lantern-lit setup, with a raised deck, large bed, and cosy seating – an ideal choice for honeymooners or those celebrating a special occasion.

Kingston Treehouse, Sabi Sands

For guests staying at Ivory Lodge and River Lodge

Surrounded by a sea of boulders and trees, Kingston Treehouse offers complete seclusion and views across untamed wilderness from a contemporary raised structure built entirely from wood and glass. Solar-powered and sustainably designed, it features a large viewing platform with plush seating, a queen bed, and a glass-ensconced bathroom, with lanterns adding a gentle glow come nightfall.

Tinyeleti Treehouse, Lion Sands

For guests staying at Tinga Lodge and Narina Lodge

Meaning ‘many stars’ in the local Shangaan language, Tinyeleti’s spacious platform can comfortably accommodate a couple or small family (children from age 10) in style. With sweeping views and frequent wildlife sightings from the comfort of your deck, the treehouse blends the thrill of a bush experience with the comfort of a luxury suite – minus the walls.

Activities

Treehouse sleepouts can be added to a stay at Lion Sands. Days are spent on game drives, guided bush walks, or relaxing at your lodge, before your guide takes you to your treehouse for a romantic picnic and drinks – potentially accompanied by thrilling wildlife sightings. No two evenings in the bush are ever the same, whether you drift off to the roar of distant lions or the soft hoot of an owl. The following morning, your guide will pick you up for a game drive and delicious bush breakfast.
