Where the Chongwe River meets the Zambezi is where you’ll find this Time + Tide camp. It’s also where you’ve a good chance of seeing herds of elephant roaming, leopard and lion relaxing or hunting, and over 250 species of bird flying.
Each of the 9 canvas and thatch tents in camp is positioned to give you an uninterrupted view of the river, which is a magnet for all kinds of wildlife all day long. Buffalo, wild dog, wildebeest, hyena and zebra are among those you’re likely to see washing, drinking or perhaps planning their next meal.
Whatever the wildlife’s up to, you can make the most of the show from your porch, the comfy seating providing just one example of the handcrafted furnishings using local talent and materials you’ll find in your accommodation.
Your bathroom is open air – a memorable safari experience as you shower beneath the sky, surrounded by the sounds of the bush.
At the day’s end, you’ll have a comfortable kingsize bed to rest and recharge in, or twins if you’ve opted for that configuration.
There are also 2 suites in camp. The Albida Suite is the family option, sleeping 4 in two tents joined by a private lounge and dining area. This suite has a private plunge pool and fire pit area too. The Cassia Suite sleeps 2 in similar style, with the addition of a rain shower and bar.
Enjoy your meals with other guests at the large dining table, or find a seat right by the river on a raised open air platform where chairs are arranged around the camp fire.
The adjacent main lounge has open sides and a canvas roof, with sofas and Persian rugs providing the luxury as you shelter from the sun. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to resist taking a peek through the telescope, browsing the books in the library section or sipping drinks in the adjacent bar. If it’s hot, the swimming pool provides a small but cooling place for a quick dip.
The team certainly want to ensure when your time in camp ends you have plenty of photographs by which to remember your experience. The wildlife hide is sure to be a draw, available day and night for you to get close up angles on animal activities.
As well as the photography, you can expect activities that make the most of the camp’s proximity to wildlife-rich land and water. Safari drives leave camp in the early mornings and afternoons daily, with expert rangers leading you to places you can expect to see wildlife with the wow factor.
They’ll also take you out on night safaris and walking safaris, the slower pace and feet on the ground nature of these expeditions opening up a whole new world of insect and plant life you might otherwise miss when in a vehicle.
Water-wise, canoeing, cruising and tiger fishing are the trio of most popular activities you can enjoy here. November is apparently the best time of year for angling.
The camp team also arranges visits to a nearby village where you can see how the locals live. And although it’s not very active, you can book a sleep out under the stars which will see you spend the night in a bed suspended above ground, with nothing between you and the stars except billions of miles of clear space.
