Tau Pan is an intimate, environmentally adapted camp of only 9 en suite rooms. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is your playground and, overlooking a permanent waterhole in an otherwise predominantly dry desert region, you’re bound to see an abundance of wildlife.
It may seem barren out there, but animals there are and if you happen to be there between December and February you could also witness the zebra migration, the second largest migration in Africa. Talk about numbers, 20,000 zebras make their journey southwards and you could get to see it.
Enjoy game drives and nature walks on this vast area of stark beauty, contrasts and pristine wilderness. You will have a chance to see the black-maned lions (who often frequent camp), oryx, springbok, jackals, brown hyena and herds of wildebeest amongst others. Bushman walks are interpretive and authentic and star gazing is out of this world.
If you’re up for it, there’s a sleep-out deck on the eastern side of camp. A remote, romantic and entirely memorable addition to your stay at Tau Pan for sure. It consists of a double bed, washbasin, a flushing toilet and a canopy of stars that will leave you bewildered.
All activities are land-based here since there isn’t much water in these parts. Game drives take you to explore the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in open safari vehicles with no more than 6 guests in each along with your guide and tracker team.
Game drives are conducted during the day only and no off-roading is allowed within the park. Day trips are offered to different areas within the reserve such as to Deception Valley and Pipers’ Pan.
Go on a nature walk led by a Bushman guide of the Central Kalahari and get a glimpse into their lives and how they thrive. Once living semi-nomadically, the experience is interactive as they tell of how they hunted and gathered for thousands of years.
The sleep-out experience is second to none. Booked on a ‘first come first serve’ basis, you’ll be wanting to reserve your spot on arrival. If you book three nights or more in camp, you can reserve it in advance.
