Near the solitary town of Solitaire and on a private reserve, the lodge is both well situated and well run. The staff are as friendly as the desert is not and the rooms, though functional and basic, are comfortable and make the most of the circadian views.
The rooms are squat adobe constructions with slanting fronts that house private patios. Inside is all tiles, pine furniture and gaudy African patterns, and the floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors welcome the sunrise.
The main lodge is a relaxed and relaxing combination of swimming pool - chilled by the rampant evaporation - and a rather intoxicating lounge, bar and dining area.
Sundowner and nature drives; Naukluft hiking trail; Sossusvlei excursions
Activities on the private nature reserve include guided and unguided hiking trails, nature drives and scenic sundowner drives. Daily trips into Sossusvlei are an obvious must with the added bonus of a friendly and knowledgeable guide to take you there and back.
