In case you were wondering, it’s pronounced in-see-ka, and it means pillar of strength. A homage to what’s undoubtedly the biggest draw in the area – the mighty Victoria Falls which you will no doubt want to see in all its natural wonder (it’s just 5km away from the lodge by the way).
However far you’ve travelled to get here, there’ll be a cool towel and iced drink to welcome you to Insika Lodge, where there’s plenty to keep you relaxed, refreshed and entertained.
The facilities you’ll share with other ‘lodgers’ are all designed to look beautiful and help you relax. Take a stroll through the landscaped gardens, enjoying the relaxing sound of the trickling streams of water that wend their way through the greenery, often ending in quaint ponds. There’s bound to be a quiet spot you can sit to take in the views, maybe finish that book you picked up at the airport. Or why not try the viewing platform which overlooks the waterhole – a magnet for wildlife all year round, day and night, with antelope and warthog regular visitors.
The lodge also has an African Essentials spa and sauna where therapists will happily deliver treatments such as manicures and massages that will melt away your worries.
The swimming pool is rated ‘plus-size’ and is surrounded by loungers from which you can enjoy views of the waterhole. Evenings can be spent gathered around the fire pit, chatting with fellow guests while looking out for nocturnal visitors to the waterhole. Or you can spend quiet moments looking up at the stars.
Indoors, the bar serves a wide variety of drinks which you could enjoy while watching the sport that’s bound to be showing on the TV screen. The restaurant serves up something different every day from the chef’s menu. Whatever’s in store, expect tasty freshness thanks to the locally sourced ingredients.
There are 40 air conditioned rooms in the lodge, available in either Luxury or Signature format. The former has views of the gardens, the latter overlook the waterhole. Whichever type you choose, you’ll get to really stretch out every night in an extra-long king size bed – or you can choose a room with extended twin beds. Either way, your ensuite will have a shower, standalone bathtub and twin sinks to make freshening up at the start of each day a really relaxing pleasure.
Signature rooms have a private veranda, plus a lounge area or reading nook, giving you space to relax with a book or scan your surroundings through binoculars. There’s also a desk and chair where you can sit with your laptop or tablet. And you can keep your refreshments cool in the fridge, and help yourselves to drinks from the bar and tea/coffee station.
Staying here is not all about the Falls, but having one of the seven natural wonders of the world on your doorstep means this magnificent attraction does tend to demand attention.
To ensure you can get to the majestic, thunderous falls with ease as many times as you want to, the lodge team lays on free transfers to Victoria Falls and the town centre (just 3km away), so you don’t have to worry about catching a bus or booking a taxi.
Once you get there, you might like to try white water rafting, or a bungee jump, or a helicopter flight over the Falls. Just ask the lodge team to arrange these. A Zambezi river cruise, fishing trip or a game drive into one of nearby national parks is also on the cards.
The town centre is home to shops, galleries and restaurants, so well worth a visit or two during your stay.
