The first lodge on the left as you enter Epupa, Epupa Falls Lodge is a privately owned and run lodge offering a unique stay, with the best views over the Kunene River and the Epupa Falls in the heart of Kaokoland.
It’s nothing fancy but with great hosts and the best location in the area it’s well worth the stay. You're on the Kunene River within earshot of the Epupa Falls.
Rustic wooden, canvas and thatch chalets on stiltz give a spectacular view of the river out front through a framed window, which is really more a tented 'flap' that opens up to allow the breeze in and allow you to look out onto the stunning surrounds.
What used to be only a campsite is now a small and intimate lodge comprised of 9 chalets (including one for the honeymooners) and still offers 7 campsites under the shade of the makalanis’. A paradise in an otherwise dry and arid region.
Built of local materials, the lodge has an aptly 'local cultural' feel. The chalets offer all the basics with en suite bathrooms, hot running water, alluring mozzi nets, solar power and coffee or tea in bed.
5 river view chalets on stilts, 1 honeymoon chalet and 3 family chalets with en suite bathrooms; mosquito nets; solar power; coffee and tea station; intermittent WiFi; restaurant on deck above the Epupa Falls; bar; swimming pool; laundry facilities & secure parking.
Campsites: 7 individual campsites (3 river-facing) on river sand under shade; braai area; shared ablutions with bathrooms & showers with hot water. All water is from the river. Fire wood available at reception. Solar power for recharging during daylight hours - no power points at the campsites.
Excellent bird watching; sundowner viewpoint; hiking (go at sunrise); Epupa tours & visits to Himba villages.
Day drives through Zebra Mountain also include a Himba village visit and optional hiking.
Photographic tours can be done on request.
