African Rock Hotel

African Rock Hotel

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

If you like getting to your hotel quickly after touching down at an airport, you’ll enjoy African Rock Hotel. It’s just 10km from Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport (about a 15 minute drive). But don’t worry, its proximity to planes doesn’t mean you’ll be disturbed by engines roaring overhead as you’re trying to relax by the heated swimming pool. This hotel is located away from the flightpaths, set in the midst of a tropical garden that’ll help you slow down the pace of life as quickly as your plane slowed down when it landed.

Like airports, there’s an international feel to things here, with African influences present in the design of the rooms, along with Eastern and Western touches to enjoy.

The bedrooms

Five star status is hard-earned for any hotel, and you’ll soon see why African Rock gets top billing. Each of the 11 air conditioned rooms dials up comfort and luxury levels to the maximum. There are 7 Luxury Suites with kingsize beds or twins (as you prefer), a pair of Superior Suites which can feature an extra 2 single beds if required, and a Family and Executive Suite.

Each will leave you in no doubt that you’re staying somewhere that’s a cut above other hotels, with satellite television, a minibar, lounge chairs and a dressing table/work desk present in all rooms, all of which have an ensuite bathroom with robes and slippers provided.

The spa

African Rock gives the spa equal billing with the hotel in its name. Must be good, then, and it is. Pampering takes place in two treatment rooms where the range of French products ensure an eco-friendly treatment for all skin types. Pedicures and manicures are also offered by the therapists who work full-time here, and there’s a peaceful area in which you can enjoy a quiet drink before heading in for your treatment.

The other facilities

Whether you’ve come here to relax and unwind, or to get active after months of sitting at a desk, this hotel has you covered. Its central location means Johannesburg’s shopping centres, museums, nightlife and sporting activities are within easy reach, with the hotel team happy to arrange transfers to and from the shops, restaurants, golf courses, tennis courts and wherever else you want to go.

The Blue Hippo restaurant at the hotel gives you somewhere to dine just a few steps from your room. And of course there’s a bar and reading lounge you’re welcome to use before or after you eat.

A heated pool and gym provide you with places to get active at the hotel, and there’s a large patio on which you can enjoy a sundowner as you plan ways to fill your days in Johannesburg.
