The lodge is thoughtfully designed to reflect its lush surroundings. At its centre, the raised main area sits beneath a canopy of trees, connected by raised wooden walkways and framed by uninterrupted views of the surrounding wilderness. Guests can unwind in the spacious lounge or one of the swinging armchairs, explore the treehouse-style library (and whizz back down from it on a slide – a quirky design element), or enjoy a drink in the open-air bar as elephants make their way past the nearby watering holes. The scenic dining area invites unhurried dinners under the stars, while the large pool offers a refreshing pause in-between game drives and boat safaris.
Wooden boardwalks wind their way through the leadwood trees to connect the 7 treehouse-style tented suites, each of which is raised on stilts to maximise the views and the sense of immersion in nature. Interiors are light and airy, with billowing fabrics, brass fittings, and playful touches that reference the watery landscape beyond. Sliding canvas panels and wooden decks create a seamless transition between indoors and out, with outdoor showers, and sunken lounges and private plunge pools overlooking the floodplains.
Known for its diverse habitats and impressive wildlife densities, Khwai Private Reserve is home to mighty predators, as well as large herds of elephant and buffalo. Follow in their tracks on twice-daily game drives in open 4x4s, or set off on a walking safari for a more immersive approach. During the annual floods, boat safaris and traditional mokoro (dugout canoe) excursions allow guests to explore the Delta’s glistening waterways. Fishing is available between March and December, and panoramic helicopter flips can be arranged on request.
