A stay at this elegant yet wonderfully unpretentious Tintswalo Collection property, a few minutes’ drive from Simon’s Town, means that you have a front-row seat to the wildlife show that is Boulders Beach’s colony of endangered African Penguins – thanks to sweeping views and direct access to the boardwalk via a wooden gate.
Beautifully designed by Tintswalo owners Gaye and Lisa Corbett, the plush maritime-themed public spaces and suites will make you feel like you’re staying in the private house of a dear friend with impeccable taste. The open-plan lounges and dining areas open up to two balconies to reveal uninterrupted views of the ocean, while the wind-protected courtyard at the back offers a cosy firepit, and the rooftop plunge pool makes for the perfect post-beach dip.
The generously sized accommodations all offer ocean vistas except for the Victory Suite, which comes with its own private (and wind-protected) courtyard instead. For the most luxurious options, book the Drommedaris or SeaWitch premier suites on the top floor, next to the pool.
Tintswalo Boulders doesn’t offer lunch or dinner, but puts on a delicious, freshly prepared breakfast spread. Following a swim with penguins or a day spent exploring the peninsula, younger guests can go wild in the penguin-themed children’s room, while parents enjoy an in-room spa treatment, surrounded by the sounds and scent of the ocean.
And come evening, guests are treated to complimentary sundowner canapés before heading out for dinner.
Sitting on the beach surrounded by penguins is the star attraction here – if you’re lucky, you might even be encircled by the friendly companions while going for a swim. The scenic location also opens up a host of other nature activities, from stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkelling, to boat cruises and seasonal whale-watching expeditions. And with Cape Point only a short drive away, you’re in a prime position to walk up to the lighthouse and lookout vantage points – with numerous hiking trails further adding to the appeal.
