3 stars

Relax in and explore from one of Africa’s most remote camps

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

There’s remote. And there’s remote. And then there’s Dune Camp remote. If you’re looking to venture way off grid into the wildest of wilderness, then this is the camp for you.

Located to the north of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, it’s based in a place called Deception Valley, a part of the world that lion, hyena, cheetah and other magnificent animals call home.

Where you’ll stay

Dune Camp has 8 stone and thatch chalets, each designed for 2 with double or twin beds, an ensuite bathroom and private viewing terrace with views of the Kalahari valleys. Ceiling fans provide the cooling, and a separate lounge area ensures you have plenty of space to call your own, so you’ll always have opportunities to relax and unwind in privacy during your stay.

Where to socialise

There’ll only ever be a maximum of 16 guests in camp at any one time, so you won’t have any trouble finding a quiet spot for some me-time during your adventure. And when you’re ready to interact with fellow guests, well, everyone’s bound to be found in the bar, dining area, boma or viewing lounge at some point. If they’re not there, they’ll likely be in the pool or relaxing around the firepit.

What to do

Chances are, you’ll spend a good deal of time in the viewing lounge from where you can keep a close eye on two waterholes which are always popular with the local wildlife. There are also various camouflaged hides dotted around camp from where you can view animals and some 200 species of birds.

Lion and leopard are perhaps the most frequent visitors, along with meerkat, aardvark, porcupine and cheetah. It’s not unheard of to see giraffe, elephant, zebra, ostrich and others too, as the wildlife roams free across the Kalahari.

But you don’t just watch from the sidelines at Dune Camp. You can venture out into the bush on guided game drives (day and night) or hiking trails, as well as on excursions to learn more about local San bushman culture, in particular their traditions and tracking skills.

After dinner, stargazing is popular with guests at camp as there’s zero light pollution in this part of the world. Handily, the general manager is keen on astronomy, so will be a great person to ask about the constellations and how to capture the best photographs of the stars.
