Raised off the hot, red sand each room is simply furnished with wood, leather and white linen - the perfect contrast to the semi-desert landscape outside the canvas tent which is your room. En-suite bathrooms are open to the sky on one end and decks extend out on the other, with comfortable chairs from which you can gaze out over the expansive surrounding landscape, preferably with an ice-cold drink in your hand.
The main lodge area sits between the 12 tented rooms and is where the pool is – a welcome sight after a day out in the dust and sand of the Kalahari. The main lodge and dining area look out over a pan which forms part of a wetland system and is a popular feature with antelope, mammals and birds.
A unique feature of the lodges in the Intu Afrika reserve, is that you can do guided walks through the bush with a local San Bushman who will demonstrate how an environment as harsh as the Kalahari, can be lived in. Animal spoor, natural remedies and a host of other interesting things are discussed on these walks – a fascinating experience.
Game drives in the reserve and bush walks with bushman.
On safari through the game reserve you can expect to see a variety of animals including zebras, giraffes, lions, leopards amongst others. Suricates, or Meerkat in Afrikaans, are the inspiration for the lodge's name and are extremely common.
