Brand new desert camp with 100% solar powered tented suites

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

A camp in the middle of a desert? To some, that will induce a frown or two. Others will be champing at the bit to experience a few days or longer in such unique surroundings. Obviously, this camp is here to appeal to the latter group. And Twyfelfontein, Damaraland in Namibia where the camp is pitched, has the added bonus of UNESCO World Heritage Site status, making the prospect of staying here even more attractive to many.

It’s also one of the newest safari destinations in the country, having welcomed its first guests at the beginning of August 2026. They’re sure to appreciate all the luxury located among the ancient granite formations that came to be as a result of volcano eruptions in prehistoric times.

No doubt, these first guests will get to marvel at the sight of herds of elephant who’ve adapted to life in the desert wandering by, looking for the nearest waterhole to drink from. There are also ancient rock paintings to view that have likely been in this region for as long as the elephant population.

100% solar powered tented suites

Promo material for the camp reveals that you’ll have a choice of a tented suite with either a Queen bed or twin beds. Whichever type of room you choose, you’re sure of a comfortable night’s sleep thanks to the luxury linen used by the bed making teams. And your room will be 100% solar-powered with a private deck where you can sit, perhaps with a drink in one hand and binoculars in the other as you take in the views.

Heading back inside your tent, the ensuite bathroom has a shower, WC and wash basin, while in the main area, tea and coffee making facilities are provided. So too a work desk and chair, but hopefully you won’t have too much work to do and plenty of time to relax.

Contemporary shared facilities, including a pool

The desert location of this camp might not be to everyone’s liking, but the communal facilities on offer are designed to please all contemporary safari enthusiasts. There’s a restaurant and bar, where you can enjoy snacks, meals and drinks. You have a swimming pool which looks to be of a good size from the photos we’ve seen. And these public areas of camp are all Wi-Fi enabled, so you can sit in the bar or by the pool with your laptop and connect with the world when you want/need to.

Activities

As a brand new camp, the activities itinerary at Sky and Stone is still taking shape. But you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be daily trips aboard 4x4s into the desert to track elephant, admire the beauty of the local giraffe population, and spot ostrich and birds of prey.

You’ll also be able to see how nature has left its mark on the landscape in the form of the 200 million year old Burnt Mountain and the 150 million year old Organ Pipes rock formation. And you can view how mankind has left its mark (in a good way) around here too in the form of ancient rock paintings.

The team will also likely offer you the chance to sample traditional Damara village life. During a visit to a local community, you could get to see blacksmiths at work forging tools and hunting weapons, and other artisans making jewellery and tanning leather to make traditional clothing.
