Romelda Lakeview Retreat

Romelda Lakeview Retreat

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

Romelda Lakeview Retreat, is exactly as the name implies, a getaway overlooking the lake and it’s quite a lake at that. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast looking for exciting water sports or simply yearning for a place to unwind and rejuvenate, Romelda Lakeview Retreat has something for everyone.

You’re at the foothills of the Glenlivet mountain range which borders the lake between two rivers, the Popteke and the Mutirikwi. Nearby, the Kyle Recreational Park is home to a flourishing population of white rhino so your odds of seeing them are good alongside buffalo, giraffe, eland, zebra and wildebeest.

Your accommodation here is a rustic tent and although more on the basic side, there’s nothing underwhelming about the view. That’s surely the drawcard. It’s a small lodge consisting of six tents of which four are entry-level standard, one family tent and one “Popteke Tent” – the more romantic, secluded and private offering. They have campsites too.

It certainly isn’t anything fancy and you might not be writing home about the tent itself, but you certainly would send a post card of that view!

Activities

White rhino tracking on foot takes you to find these beauties in an incredible setting and you’re getting there by boat (roughly 30 minutes from the lodge) and a short transfer. Off you go. Keep your eyes peeled. You will likely walk anything from 1 – 5km to find them, but not to worry there’s plenty to see along the way too.

Go explore the ancient city of Great Zimbabwe, estimated to have been built between 1100 and 1450 AD. A chance to see the Hill Ruins, the Valley Ruins and the Great Enclosure. It’s just a 40km drive from Masvingo town. Go on your own or do it guided. The lodge can assist if you decide on the latter.

There’s also an Italian Chapel found roughly 30 minutes drive from the lodge. It’s the Chapel of St. Francis of Assisi which was built in the early 1940’s. Worth visiting for the historical insight and the paintings and murals.
