Getting the chance to see one of the seven wonders of the natural world doesn’t happen every day. Unless you stay at Pioneers. That’s because Victoria Falls is just 2.5km away from the lodge, making this just about the perfect place to stay to give you easy access to the globally famous attraction, while retaining the privacy and relaxing environment you’re seeking.
Pioneers is located in a suburban, residential area, with beautifully kept gardens all around. There’s been a big push to make the lodge as environmentally friendly as possible, with solar panels in use, and support given to local wildlife charities that are committed to conservation.
A handsome half-century of rooms awaits here with views of one of the two pools and the grassy lawns your reward every time you look through your windows. The styling the designers have gone for is probably best described as classic comfort. Choose to sleep in twin beds or a kingsize, and freshen up in an ensuite shower. Your room will be air conditioned and have tea and coffee making facilities to help you get each day off to a good start.
Children are welcome at Pioneers, and there are four family suites to prove it. Wi-fi is provided throughout the lodge, so phones, tablets and laptops can keep people of all ages entertained and in touch with friends and family back home.
Your chief reason for staying here will surely to be to see Victoria Falls, and you can make your own way there or be part of a guided tour of the several waterfalls in the area. The Livingstone museum is another popular destination for tourists, as is the town of Victoria Falls, just 2km from the lodge.
Victoria Falls National Park figures highly on most people’s list of places to visit, with good chances of seeing elephant, white rhino, hippo, crocodile, buffalo and more.
Wherever you go during daylight hours, after sunset, many guests choose a boat cruise along the Zambezi, such a tranquil way to round off a day.
But if you’re looking for something more active, don’t feel left out. You can go canoeing, bungee jumping, zip lining or water rafting, and even book a microlight or helicopter flight to get a bird’s eye view of the region.
Back at Pioneers, the two pools and sun terrace will give you somewhere to cool off and relax, and you can book a treatment in the Spa and Wellness centre for some pampering. The restaurant and boma are the places to go when tummies start rumbling. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served at Pioneers, with drinks – including tasty local craft beers - served in the large bar.
