Set on a small, forested island deep within the northern Okavango Delta, Little Vumbura delivers a relaxed and intimate safari experience surrounded by water, wildlife and wide open floodplains. Accessible by boat only from a nearby airstrip, this 6 tent camp feels wonderfully removed, offering a sense of classic Delta living with nature always close at hand.
Located within a private concession of diverse habitats – from permanent swamps and palm dotted islands to seasonal floodplains and acacia woodland – Little Vumbura is perfectly positioned for varied game viewing throughout the year. Wildlife moves freely through the waterways, and sightings often begin right from camp, where elephants, buffalo and antelope are regular visitors.
In the central area, you’ll find an open-plan lounge and dining area, which lead to a bar and boma – with a raised lounge on the opposite side and a walkway flowing to a sala for private dinners.
Shaded by the canopy of an ancient Okavango forest, each elevated tent is positioned to maximise privacy and views over the surrounding floodplains. Canvas walls create an authentic safari feel, allowing the sounds of the Delta to drift in – birdsong at dawn, distant lions after dark, and the occasional trumpet of an elephant passing nearby as you relax on your private deck. The family unit sleeps 4 across 2 rooms connected by an interleading door.
During the day, glide silently through reed lined channels on a traditional mokoro, or explore the floodplains on guided game drives. Back at camp, enjoy high tea, cool off in the pool overlooking the water, and relax on the deck before the Delta reveals its most magical colours. Evenings are spent gathering around the boma for drinks, and enjoying a spot of stargazing as the sounds of the bush drift by.
Water based activities are a highlight at Little Vumbura, with boating and mokoro excursions offering a peaceful way to explore the Delta’s channels (water levels permitting). Morning and afternoon game drives reveal a rich diversity of wildlife, including elephant, buffalo, leopard and the chance to spot endangered African wild dogs. Guided nature walks are available with qualified guides, while catch and release fishing can be enjoyed seasonally, and children will love the tailored Bush Buddy activities. Scenic helicopter flights over the Okavango Delta and cultural village visits can be arranged at an additional cost.
