Situated in the village, a quiet block away from the main street, Le Quartier Français is within walking distance from the village's procession of restaurants, boutique shops and art galleries.
With a variety of room styles, each decorated individually with a commitment to quirkiness, bright colours and delightful "found" items, accommodation ranges from luxury to super-luxury. The modest auberge rooms - 10 in all - are built around a swimming pool and garden; the auberge suites offer complete privacy and are great for families; and the various suites offer ascending levels of luxury. All of the rooms are spacious and have en suite bathrooms with under floor heating, open fireplaces, air conditioning, ceiling fans, satellite TV and wi-fi.
Famous for its food, Le Quartier Français has three restaurants run by award-winning chef, Margot Janse: the Common Room is a casual French-styled café with sidewalk seating and a wonderful a la carte menu; Bread & Wine is a partner restaurant on a nearby wine farm - and source of your cured meats and breads; and The Tasting Room is the globally-lauded flagship restaurant with five- and nine-course tasting meals paired with local wines.
Le Quartier Francais has much to do inside its modest grounds: from lazing by the pool to enjoy a spa treatment and enjoying a movie in the private cinema. And of course you must put aside one night for the blockbuster tasting menu at the Tasting Room restaurant.
Franschhoek town is a short walk - or free shuttle ride - away where you will find more restaurants, shops, galleries, craft markets and beyond that the wine farms that line the valley floor.
