About an hour and a half’s drive southeast from the Namibian capital, Windhoek, set amid scenery you’ll be able to enjoy on foot, on safari, and from a glider, is the Kiripotib Guest Farm. It’s a working farm that you’ll be able to see in action as you relax and unwind under the shade of huge trees and make the most of a unique range of activities offered by the welcoming camp team.
Kiripotib offers a variety of modern, Wi-Fi enabled, air conditioned places to stay, all decorated in natural colours with touches of African flair here and there. Most of the rooms use an eco-friendly solar water heating system. All of the beds are presented with your comfort in mind, and you get a private terrace on which you can relax and enjoy the sense of being in the midst of a Kalahari desert oasis that this location is designed to give you.
Each is designed for 2 adults and 2 children, or up to 3 adults to share.
These are located in The Guest House, The Old Farmhouse and The Hangar, and all offer rather splendid views of the savannah.
Half house, half tent, with a thatched roof and tent-style walls, this unique accommodation will help up to 2 adults feel closer to the nature all around you.
You’re sure to want to try out the swimming pool during your stay, perhaps to cool off in the afternoon heat, or to get a bit of exercise before breakfast. The pool is set in a location that’s surrounded by trees and decking, so you can swim in peace and relax in style.
Close by is a lapa (an open-sided, thatched roof building) with a restaurant, bar and lounge. The menus offer something for everyone with many dishes made from produce grown in Kiripotib’s gardens, and the milk of the Jersey cows who graze on-site fills coffee cups and creates the delicious cheeses you can enjoy.
In between mealtimes, there’s plenty to keep you busy, with the on-site arts and crafts studios offering jewellery making, weaving and spinning workshops. A gallery displays collections of the beautiful carpets, art and jewels created by local artisans.
At least one game drive ought to be on your itinerary during your stay. The wildlife you can expect to see from the open top safari vehicle is a real A to Z of African nature, from aardvark to zebra, with blesbucks, hartbees, springboks and more in between.
You can explore the bush on foot, going it alone on a hiking trail into the Aloe Forest, or choose a guided tour that’ll see you scale the Karubeams Mountain.
If you’re staying here between mid October and late January, you’ll have a chance to get up in the air in a glider for a never to be forgotten bird’s eye tour of your surroundings.
Most guests choose to round off the day with a spot of stargazing, with the camp team providing plenty of advice, information and equipment to make looking at the night sky a rewarding and – some might go as far to say – astronomical experience.
