Buffalo Camp is the place to go to find out. Here you’ll get a snapshot of safari accommodation in years gone by, with a few essential contemporary comforts added to the mix of course, such as flatscreen TVs and modern 4x4 vehicles in which an experienced ranger will take you out into the wilds on a mission to find the Big 5.
That neatly describes the 10 luxury tents that provide the accommodation at Buffalo Camp.
But these aren’t tents in the traditional sense. There’s not a sleeping bag in sight. Instead, you get a duvet and plumped up pillows on a luxurious kingsize bed with cotton linen covering the comfy mattress.
Air conditioning ensures you can get the temperature inside your tent just right, no matter what the weather’s doing outside, while the open plan bathing area means you can sit in the tub and enjoy views of the reserve while you relax. There’s also a shower and double washbasin (a screen is provided if you prize your privacy!)
Dark wood and leather furnishings and fittings abound throughout the tent, because that’s how they liked it back in the day. Sliding glass doors lead out onto the large deck where the presence of seats, a foot stool and coffee table proves that generations past were just as captivated as you’ll be by the idea of relaxing while taking in the beauty of the surroundings.
All this relaxing you’re likely to do is thirsty work, so the presence of a minibar as well as tea and Nespresso coffee making facilities in your suite, sorry, tent, is sure to be welcome.
The central shared area of camp is accessed via elevated and illuminated wooden walkways that’ll connect your tent to the place to go for food, drink, swimming and communal relaxation areas with views you’ll want to bring your binoculars for.
Sun loungers, umbrellas, trees and plants combine to surround the elevated rim-flow pool and make it a cosy place to enjoy a dip or a few lengths before drying off in the sun.
You can enjoy meals in the thatched roof dining room and lounge area with fireplace, or at a table in the boma which boasts an open fire at its heart.
Head to the Buffalo Bar for refreshment of the liquid variety, then choose your spot on a chair or sofa to relax the rest of the evening away, with the chirps and whistles of local wildlife providing the playlist.
Only adults get to stay in Buffalo Camp, with the minimum age set at 16 years old. Sorry kids! But there are plenty of family-friendly places here on Namibia Tours and Safaris for you to choose from.
Kapama Buffalo Camp offers a range of thrilling activities that allow guests to experience the splendour of the African bush. Visitors can embark on exciting game drives and night drives to spot the Big 5 – lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards and rhinos – as well as enjoy exceptional game viewing throughout the day. Birdwatching is a highlight for nature lovers, with a variety of species to observe. Guests can also take part in guided walks or engage in the unique experience of rhino tracking, guided by knowledgeable rangers. For those seeking more intimate encounters with wildlife, elephant interactions provide a chance to get up close with these majestic creatures. The camp also offers indulgent experiences such as high tea, and for the adventurous, sleep outs under the stars offer an unforgettable way to connect with nature. Safaris at Kapama Buffalo Camp are immersive and educational, ensuring every guest leaves with lasting memories of Africa's wild beauty.
