High up in the hills and surrounded by the Outeniqua mountains, a forest and the Swartvlei estuary, this is a Garden Route beauty of a boutique hotel.
With just 5 suites available on this 40 hectare family-friendly site, you’re likely to see more of the otters, badgers, tortoises and other wildlife that call this place home than you are fellow guests.
It’s a place that tends to attract people who are looking to fill their days doing things, something that’s reflected in the list of activities available. These include hiking, fishing, cycling, kayaking and snorkelling in the estuary, birding in the forest, and sunset cruises. Beach lovers will not be disappointed as there are plenty of sandy places where you can rest and soak up the sun if that’s your thing.
Places that will give you the chance to rub shoulders with fellow guests include the swimming pool which is situated on its own raised deck a short distance from the hotel and accessed via steps and a walkway. There are recliners here that you can lie on to dry off after your dip. The lounge in the hotel has a classic feel and is another area ideal for socialising or quiet reading and reflection, while the jungle gym gives you somewhere to stay trim.
Everyone will be drawn to the dining room and restaurant at some point, not just by the quality of the local cuisine which has helped seal Kambaku’s reputation, but also by the views of the estuary and mountains, which from the dining room in particular are panoramic and uninterrupted.
Guests tend to head to the bar afterwards to enjoy drinks in a relaxing atmosphere before doing a little star gazing from their suite. And you’re likely to find yourself perusing the displays in the curio shop for something to take home to remind you of good times well spent here.
All accommodation is designed for two adults, although one of the two Classic suites can also sleep one child. Both Classic Suites offer views of the gardens including the fish pond from their private verandas, while the three Premier Suites overlook the Swartvlei estuary. Two of the five suites feature a lounge area that’s separate from the bedroom, while all have an ensuite bathroom, with rolltop tub or walk-in shower, plus robes and slippers provided. Your room will also have a minibar and a TV that hooks up to satellite services.
At Kambaku @ Sea, guests can enjoy a variety of activities designed to highlight the stunning coastal setting. The property offers easy access to the beach, where guests can relax, swim, or take part in water-based activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding. For those keen on exploring the area, guided nature walks and birdwatching excursions are available. Guests can also embark on boat trips to explore nearby coastal reserves or simply unwind by the pool. With the peaceful environment and beautiful surroundings, Kambaku @ Sea offers both adventure and relaxation in equal measure.
