And if it's good enough for Jock, it must be good enough for er, all Jock's friends? No, seriously, it’s extremely nice. 6,000 hectares of extremely nice in fact. And it's all yours. Get ready for the Big Five. And remember Fitzpatrick's words "fortune is not in time or place or things; but, good or bad, in the man's own self for him alone to find and prove." Far out.
Kruger is the main dude when it comes to South African National Parks. Hundreds of species of trees, birds, reptiles and mammals. 1,700 lion, 15,000 elephant, 25,000 buffalo and 1,000 leopard. Not bad. The guides here will tell you all you need or want to know. They’ll also tell you loads about Jock and his master. Fitzpatrick was pretty fearless. Legend has it he outwitted crocodile infested rivers, malaria-carrying mosquitoes and lions. Hmm. Who knows? Definitely a good yarn and one to mill over as you enjoy life here in the super-slow lane. Original "Jock of the Bushveld" mementoes are on display at the Main Lodge.
You have two accommodation types: Main Jock Lodge and Fitzpatrick’s At Jock.
Main Jock Lodge has 12 individual thatched suites. Private decks, plunge pool, plus that joyous delight - an outdoor day bed. Just lie and stare. No sleeping now, keep your eye on that riverbed. They're the Mitomeni and Biyamiti rivers. And here, here they join as one. Romantic rivers.
Fitzpatrick's at Jock is a 3 room stand-alone lodge. This is the place for families and small groups. Very good for children actually. They do a whole range of activities including play dough sessions and Junior ranger training.
Main Jock Lodge:
Fitzpatrick's at Jock:
Morning and evening game drives, wilderness walking safaris, bird watching, spa treatments and golf.
Worth noting that Jock Safari Lodge says they have a 100% commitment in maintaining a low impact upon the wilderness.
At dusk, you can go to a viewpoint for sundowners - look out for nocturnal leopard, lion and hyena on the way back.
Bird lovers should look out for the martial, tawny and fish eagles as well as steppe buzzards.
Hornbills, starlings, boubou’s, shrikes and woodpeckers can often be seen from your room.
If you want to chill in the spa, go for it. The Pilgrim’s Rest Retreat is named after the town featured in Fitzpatrick’s book.
You could also visit the Stevenson Hamilton Museum in Skukuza.
For children, as well as arts, craft and play dough sessions, puzzles and books are available.
