Close to the coast and not far from Big 5-rich reserves, Fazala Game Park and Spa in KwaZulu-Natal near Durban gives you a chance to see the best wildlife in the water and on dry land.
It’s a great place to celebrate a landmark life event, such as an anniversary or honeymoon.
No zip entrances here. Your tent will have a wooden front door, which is a sign of the luxuries to come. Inside your tent, (there are 15 in total, all raised off the ground), you’ll find African design inspiration everywhere. Two single beds provide the sleeping space, and there’s an area for getting dressed, a private sundeck offering up views of the park you’ll want to photograph again and again, and ensuite shower rooms (some of the tents have a bath tub as well).
Tea and coffee making facilities are provided too, so you can start each day the tasty way before heading out to the enjoy the shared facilities in the park.
Meals are served in the restaurant or outdoor boma, where you can enjoy drinks with fellow guests or relax in the bar. Speaking of relaxing, the swimming pool and health spa offer up the chance to do exactly that, and with free Wi-fi across all communal areas, you’ll be able to send photos back home to make friends and family wish they were there with you.
There’s a kids club here, proving that younger guests are more than welcome to join you. The club caters for 4 to 12 year olds and keeps them well entertained with all kinds of competitions, trips, arts and crafts sessions and treasure hunts.
As we’ve mentioned, Fazala gives you the chance to see some of the world’s biggest, most impressive mammals. One day you could head out on foot to track rhino, one of the Big 5. The next day, you could be out on the water whale watching (depending on the time of year you visit). There are also cheetah, crocodile and snake experiences you can take part in, and an intriguingly named Elephant Interaction activity.
Whenever you’re here, freshwater fishing can be on the menu, so could horse riding or a visit to St Lucia World Heritage site, or Hluhluwe Village on the Elephant Coast. You could also experience day and night game drives on the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, where you could tick off the rest of the Big 5 from your bucket list, and giraffe, hippo, zebra and wildebeest too. The reserve is just a 30 min drive from the park.
