Easy to reach by car – the camp is just off the C38 road which has a tarmac surface – Etosha Omusati offers three different types of accommodation to suit almost every budget. And the value for money you get is matched by the lodge’s close proximity to Etosha National Park - one of Namibia’s premier wildlife locations. The camp is just 15 km from the Anderson Gate entrance to the park which takes you into land teeming with predators and their prey.
Omusati features 20 air-conditioned bush chalets, each of which has 2 single beds with an ensuite shower room. Outside, a private veranda gives you a place to relax and view the landscape. And inside, you can use the desk and chair to write home about it. One of the units is designed for families, with four single beds and a mezzanine level.
There are also 10 bungalows which, like the chalets, have twin beds and are styled in such a way that you might think you’re in a plush city hotel – that’s until you take in the views of the wilds through your broad windows. The best place to enjoy the scenery is the private patio at the front of your chalet or bungalow. There are chairs out here and a small table for the coffees you can make for yourselves using your in-room facilities.
The third type of accommodation comes in the form of the 4 campsites, which are for those of you who prefer to bring your own accommodation with you. Each site has space for up to 6 guests and your booking gives you access to barbecue/outdoor dining facilities plus shared ablution blocks with flushing toilets.
The walled-in swimming pool is bound to be popular with you and other guests. You can arrange loungers around the side to ensure you get a spot in the sun or shade to dry off. When you’re hungry, head to the dining area for buffet-style breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The camp also has a small bar leading to a sundowner deck. And the observation tower gives you an elevated view over the camp’s surroundings, a great place to watch sunsets and use binoculars to scan the landscape for wildlife.
Campsite facilities
No doubt, the full-day and half-day safaris that head into the Etosha National Park are popular with guests. Who’s going to want to miss out on the chance to see elephant, lion, rhino, giraffe, zebra and more in the wild?
Capturing outstanding photos of this wildlife plays a big part in many people’s visits, and you can benefit from experts in camp who’ll share tips and tricks to help you snap amazing shots.
Other trips you can book include a visit to the Fairytale Forest which covers a 2km2 patch of land and has fairy tale trees, hence the name. The Etosha Trading Post is nearby, a good place to top up on fuel for both you and your vehicle. You can also buy curios from the shop. And the team lays on a day trip to the Okaukuejo area of Etosha, where sightings of wildlife are commonplace, thanks in no small measure to the floodlit waterhole.
