Elegant, eco, glamping. You know you're in a nice location when it gets to be on a stamp. You know? Those little square pictures we used to lick and stick on an envelope containing paper with your own handwriting; and then post it... in a post box. Sigh. Long story.
Back in 1990, the Tsaris Mountains - modest as they are - surely blushed to find themselves commemorated on Namibia's 45-cent stamp. This place is one for the album. A 15-minute drive from the Elegant Desert Lodge and approx 50km from Sesriem. Welcome to the Namib Desert.
Against an outcrop, 10 tents blend into the surrounds. They're made of canvas, timber, rock and and span an elevated deck of 85 sq m. Smart inside, especially considering you're in the middle of nowhere, you have a king-size extra length bed. Now that's what you call comfort when glamping.
Each has a stone wall for privacy and for shelter from the wind when it turns nasty. Roll up the tented sides to embrace the desert breeze when it's benign. Roll your bed out onto the deck and sleep out under the stars. Listen to the sound of silence.
It's quite a hike to the swimming pool and this lodge is not wheelchair friendly. You'll also be check in and have your breakfasts at the main lodge.
Remote. There's no WiFi. Just the desert ahead of you. Immerse yourself in the wilderness.
