Vive la France! Fans of all things French will adore this 5-star guest house close to the KwaZulu-Natal coast in eastern South Africa.
The beautiful area of Provence provides the inspiration for the style and name of this popular place to stay that’s just 20 mins by car from Durban’s main airport, King Shaka International.
Expect to be surrounded by beauty inside and out, as this most elegant of guest houses is located next to a conservation park, has its own tropical gardens, and offers three different types of outstanding accommodation:
There are 16 rooms here, each giving you the chance to sleep less than 300 metres from the beach at Salt Rock. They’re classed as Standard Luxury Rooms and Luxury Suites, and all have their own layout and decorative style, inspired by Provence of course. Common features include a patio area, air conditioning, flatscreen television, and refrigerator. All rooms have an ensuite shower, some a bath tub as well, and the beds are either Kingsize or Queens. Top of the range is the Cezanne Presidential Suite which is as glam as it sounds.
Here’s a tranquil place within the grounds of the guest house for up to three guests, with sleeping space provided by a double bed and a sofa bed.
This rather splendid 3 bedroom home gives a family or group of friends somewhere private to call their own. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms here, together with a lounge, kitchen and dining area, so you can self-cater. Outside, there’s a patio and fire pit for relaxation and meals.
Start the day with a stroll around the garden or a dip in the pool. After breakfast, if you’re not heading out, there are spaces you can lounge around inside the guest house and its grounds. Most people head for the pool.
The French are renowned for their cuisine of course, and the guest house team are just as dedicated to serving up quality food and drink. Exotic cheeses, local fruits and delicious pastries are on the menu for breakfast, for example.
If relaxing is your number one priority, the team and facilities here have you covered. But, being located on the coast, there’s plenty of activities on the water and dry land to enjoy. Not least dolphin spotting cruises – and where better to do that than the Dolphin Coast? Crocodile Creek and Ndlondlo Reptile Park are popular attractions, as is the Ballito Boardwalk. Many guests also choose to swim the Ballito Tidal Pool or take in a round of golf at the Umhlali Country Club, just 3km from the guest house.
