When planning a visit to Cape Town, One & Only is unlikely to be the one and only hotel you look into, but it certainly deserves to be on your shortlist.
Set amid private waterways, the consensus is that this is one of the best hotels in Cape Town. Many put that down to its central location – in the heart of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Others to the size of the rooms and suites which, it’s claimed, are the largest in the city. We haven’t had our measuring tapes out, but are happy to take them at their word.
Fact is that this classy hotel delivers in terms of putting you within an ice-cube’s throw of Cape Town’s bars, restaurants and other attractions. And the views of Table Mountain, the marina and the waterways are second to none.
There are 131 rooms here, 23 of which are suites. They’re located either in the main hotel building or on the man-made island in the resort. Most, but not all, have some outside space – either a balcony or terrace, and your room can have two queen size beds if you prefer – an option that’s not available in other places in town. The furnishings in your expansive space certainly look and feel expensive, and fittings such as standalone bathtubs add to the opulence.
As you might expect, rooms have grandiose names such as Island Superior Suites which appeal to families and couples. There’s also the Presidential Suite which exudes 2 bedroom luxury with a big living area sharing open plan space with a large dining table. This indoor space is surrounded by terraces from which you can breathe in and soak up the atmosphere of Cape Town.
The Lion’s Head Penthouse is home to 4 ensuite bedrooms from which you can wake feeling fully relaxed and ready to enjoy outstanding indoor and outside living space
Nobu at One & Only offers Michelin-star dining and is one of many options you have in terms of restaurants in resort or nearby in the town itself. You can choose to eat in your room via prior arrangement. Vista is the place to head for cocktails, with the views of Table Mountain as impressive as the wine collection and variety of other drinks
The hotel is home to a swimming pool and gym, both of which you’d expect to find in a modern hotel, but like everything else here, they’re larger than most.
Word is that Spa Island is the only spa on the African continent to use ESPA products and to have a Bastien Gonzalez studio offering manicures and pedicures.
The hotel team runs a Children’s Club for the 4 to 12s. They’ll get to take part in sports and games, arts and crafts, as well as on-screen activities on games consoles. You can also bring pet dogs to stay with you here.
At One&Only Cape Town, guests can enjoy a blend of relaxation, culture, and adventure. Spend time unwinding at the spa or pool, take a guided tour of Cape Town’s vibrant city attractions, or explore nearby icons such as Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront. Wine lovers can enjoy curated tastings in the hotel’s Wine Loft, while food enthusiasts can indulge in world-class dining. For the more active, there’s a fully equipped gym, yoga sessions, and excursions ranging from Robben Island visits to Cape Peninsula tours.
