Ohorongo is all about making a real difference in African conservation. They focus on protecting wildlife, reintroducing species that have vanished, and nurturing plants and animals back to health. With over 50 years of dedicated family stewardship, they look after a massive 35,000-hectare reserve where you’ll find the endangered black rhinos and around 40 other species. Safaris here are thoughtfully done, often on foot, and they use locally-sourced, homegrown ingredients in their meals. Since they’re a non-profit, every bit of support they get goes straight into conservation and helping the local community.
Ohorongo Tented Camp offers a genuine connection to nature with its canvas tents, reminiscent of classic African travel. Located in the western part of the reserve, the camp is thoughtfully integrated into the granite boulders of a rocky outcrop. The four sustainably built tented suites are elevated on wooden decks and feature private terraces, outdoor showers, and comfy amenities, reflecting the camp’s commitment to conservation and sustainability. By blending seamlessly with the natural landscape and preserving its integrity, the camp ensures guests enjoy the outdoors while still experiencing modern comforts.
The landscape features vast thorny savannah and striking granite outcrops. Their guides will take you on an incredible journey through a stunning gorge, where you'll uncover ancient Bushman caves and carvings, and a refreshing natural spring. You can also experience:
