Ohakane Lodge

Ohakane Lodge

Kaokoland
2 stars

Opuwo is the largest centre in the sparsely populated northern reaches of Namibia and the only stretch of paved road for miles around. The fascinating semi-nomadic Himba people live here and the region is a hotspot for many rare and endemic birds.

Please note: Our review of this property has not yet been added. Watch this space. We're working on it.

As a tailor-made tour operator, we often have to get creative when designing your perfect itinerary.

For example, your travel consultant might add this property to your itinerary if:

Location is a significant factor
It offers a unique feature that will enhance your experience
This is a last-minute booking and room availability is limited
Cost is a factor and you'd rather splash out on another part of your trip
This is a newly opened or refurbished property that we have not inspected yet

When designing your custom itinerary we have much to consider not least of which is the value proposition of every product and service included in your quote. In all cases we strive to give you the best experience possible within your budget so please feel free to ask your travel consultant to share their reasons for including this property in your itinerary.

In the centre of this bustling market town, the Ohakane Lodge is an excellent base from which to explore this rugged realm of rocky mountains, grizzly heat and mopane savannah. You're central to the town of Opuwo and close to all basic amenities and beer halls.

All rooms at the lodge have en suite bathrooms and much needed air conditioning. The thatched living area houses the restaurant, bar, bistro and a small curio shop. If the air conditioning in the rooms is much needed, the pool is essential and its lush lawn and thatched gazebo will provide a welcome retreat after a days bird watching and interaction with the proud Himba.

A little out of town and smaller, quieter and more rustic is Mopane Camp - the younger sibling to Ohakane Lodge and another excellent base camp for exploring the Kunene region. Both lodges offer day trips and longer excursions that take you deep into the uncharted territories camping overnight wherever ample shade can be found.
